How GPA is calculated

A weighted GPA accounts for the number of credit hours each course carries. Courses worth more credits have a proportionally larger effect on your GPA than lighter courses.

GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours

For example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course contributes 4.0 × 3 = 12.0 quality points. A B (3.0) in a 4-credit course contributes 12.0 quality points. Together: (12 + 12) ÷ (3 + 4) = 24 ÷ 7 = 3.43 GPA.
